With a mission to, “extend affordable telephony through advanced technology to underserved populations in developing countries,” VoIP provider TalkFree is realizing success in the global market.
Founded in 2003, the company offers a wide array of solutions for Internet cafés, call shops, mobile call shops and mobile VoIP providers - providing a turnkey, plug and play “VoIP business in a box” that requires no contracts and has a low, one-time start-up cost.
To find out more about TalkFree and what the company does, Dave Rawlings, CEO of TalkFree recently sat down with TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) for a video interview.
Rawlings told Tehrani that most of the company’s business in the Middle East as they specialize in developing nations where it’s hard to access the Internet, and harder to get paid.
“We pride ourselves on trying to make a difference in the world and help these migrant workers who spend about 10 percent of their money in telecommunications,” Rawlings said.
“We want to allow them to call home and talk to their significant others and say: "Hey did you get the check? How are the kids?" and we do it cheaply and affordably.”
While Rawlings noted that about 50 percent of their calls go out to India, other destinations like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Nepal are also big destinations people are calling, he said.
In addition to selling through distributors, Rawlings also hinted that the company has plans in Q4 to launch an end user product.
Currently TalkFree only sells to resellers – and it’s a market that’s taken off for them.
According to Rawlings, when he joined the company three years ago, they had around 200 resellers and now they have over 2,300.
“We have some competitive advantages,” Rawlings said. Including staff in Dubai, local language capabilities, 24/7 support and gold, silver and bronze level of usage that Rawlings noted is particularly appealing for their resellers.
With the choices in levels of usage, “We let people choose their price and their quality,” Rawlings said. “So they can sell to someone who is price sensitive or to someone who is quality sensitive.”
