At Interop 2010 in Las Vegas TMC's (News - Alert) CEO Rich Tehrani, interviewed Iain Kenney, Director of Product Marketing for Edgecore Networks. Kenney said the company is now part of a joint venture with LG-Ericsson (News - Alert), which is allowing them to bring together their data portfolio.
Remarking that he doesn't like to use the word "converged," as it's been overused for the past ten years or so, Kenney said nevertheless, they're trying to bring together the data offerings they've always had "and been strong in," with their voice products, particularly focusing on VoIP.
Tehrani asked how the reseller market is affected by this. Kenney noted that as resellers have always been the focus of their business, "our resellers now have access not only to data products, but also now voice." So resellers who were selling another voice brand, or would like to get into voice to complement their service offerings, now have a real opportunity, he noted.
"We're definitely continuing to expand our reseller program," Kenney said, to introducing services, installation and support, "which is all for our partners to use."
He noted that they're now starting to work with voice resellers, who maybe traditionally didn't ever deal with Edgecore, to try and support their voice business with data products. "Because as we know," he said, "VoIP is all about having the data structure there, and maybe they've been selling another brand, or working with different partners."
Now, Kenney said, they can work with Edgecore as "almost a one-stop shop," adding that the company now has unified communications packages available to them as part of the new venture.
