With the help of Socialtext Signals customers now have simple and efficient information sharing capabilities. This also helps to further expand the company's enterprise social networking and collaboration platform.
The official release of Socialtext Signals gives users the same micro-blogging style of open sharing that most popular public tools have on offer, but also ensures that conversations are kept secure within the framework of the organization. Different from the standalone "Twitter-clones," Socialtext Signals gives an integrated user experience for social messaging across the Socialtext platform, such as the ability to signal in context of wiki editing. Socialtext Signals helps to amplify, clarify and complements other collaboration activities, thereby eliminating the need for playing "email volleyball" with attachments, helping coworkers to transparently work and collaborate on common goals.
Montgomery Flinsch who works in the Electronic Publishing & Media Technology Services at Mayo Clinic is extremely happy with Socialtext Signals. He said that he had been predicting the convergence of Wikis, Twitter, blogs and Facebook.
Socialtext also announced the public beta availability of the Socialtext Desktop, which is a rich desktop application powered by Adobe AIR and is used for monitoring and participating in social messaging, social networking and collaboration.
Socialtext Desktop was built using the Adobe AIR technology which is a cross-platform runtime and key component of the Adobe Flash Platform. Within Socialtext Desktop, Adobe AIR enables a persistent, rich interface for automatic notification of Signals (what people are sharing and saying) and Updates (automatically generated notifications about what people are working in: blog posts, comments, wiki edits, profile edits), with the ability to post at your fingertips.
Bryant Macy, director of product marketing for the Platform Business Unit at Adobe said that "The rich experience that Adobe AIR provides for Web applications outside of the browser is a perfect match with Socialtext's unique flexible SaaS (News - Alert)-hosted and SaaS-appliance delivery. Socialtext Desktop is a great example of how Adobe Flash Platform technologies can be used to create intuitive, highly interactive business-critical Web applications that improve productivity in the enterprise."
