Celeno Launches WiFi Technology for Carrier Grade HD Video Home Networking
Celeno Communications (News - Alert), a provider of semiconductors for multimedia WiFi home networking applications, today launched its new WiFi System on a Chip (CL1300). Powered by the Celeno patent-pending OptimizAIR technology, the new CL1300 WiFi chip can stream up to four concurrent and different HD streams with whole-home coverage while maintaining wire-like quality of experience.
Celeno’s new CL1300 technology will debut at IBC (Amsterdam, Sept 12-16). Cisco (News - Alert) will also demonstrate at IBC applications enabled by Celeno’s WiFi technology, said the company in a release.
Triple play service providers deploying IPTV (News - Alert) services face significant technical and operational challenges to distribute HD video streams around the home. Wire-based technologies lack ubiquity and portability; are costly to install; and require expensive truck rolls. Also, off the shelf 802.11n WiFi silicon doesn’t provide the required coverage and robustness for HD video home networking.
“The next wave of home connectivity applications will be heavily oriented toward support service provider deployments of entertainment-centric applications and networked consumer electronics, which emphasizes the absolute necessity for home networking solutions to support robust in-home throughput and quality-of-service measures,” said Kurt Scherf, vice president and principal analyst with Parks Associates. “With the number of in-home networked devices to top one billion by 2012, Celeno is ideally positioned to take advantage of new home networking rollouts, as its silicon is specifically designed to support high-quality and reliable streams of HD content.”
“Celeno’s WiFi System on a Chip will help to enable the next evolution of wireless home networking and is designed from the ground up to solve the unique challenges of IPTV service providers and wireless HD video home networking requirements of performance, cost structure and truly open, client agnostic, architecture,” said Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno. “We are excited to witness the great endorsement of our technology from tier one operators and the adoption of our product by multiple manufactures.”
The CL1300 is a standards-based 802.11 System on a Chip meant for wireless video home networking access point applications that include full 802.11 PHY and MAC functionality, a wireless network processor and an embedded CPU.
The CL1300 chip can be integrated into consumer electronics devices such as IPTV home gateways; DOCSIS 3.0 gateways; NAS devices, multi-room DVR set top boxes or wireless video extenders and adapters.
Powered by Celeno’s patent pending OptimizAIR technology, the solution supports over 50 meters (150feet) through multiple walls and ceilings with enough throughput for 4 HD streams and with no packets loss or visual artifacts.
The CL1300 also perform better with third party client chipsets, 802.11a/b/g or 802.11n and even with very low-cost single antenna client designs.
OptimizAIR integrates over a standard 802.11 core, Beam Forming MIMO to increase range, Channel Aware (News - Alert) Transmission Shaping to boost robustness and zero out packet loss and Channel Aware Scheduling to achieve HD quality of service.
