Fujitsu Siemens Demonstrates Green Initiative with Polycom Telepresence
Fujitsu Siemens Computers says it successfully implemented Polycom’s (News - Alert) immersive telepresence technology between facilities in Hallbergmoos, Germany and Slough in the UK to support Fujitsu Siemens’ annual financial results conference for press and analysts. The conference is on protecting the environment and reducing carbon emissions, and also serves as a platform for showcasing Fujitsu Siemens’ (News - Alert) state-of-the-art experience for participants.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has a strategic focus on next-generation mobility and dynamic data center products, services, and solutions. Polycom provides unified collaborative communications (UCC) solutions that maximize the efficiency and productivity of people and organizations, and specializes in high definition telepresence, wired and wireless voice, and content solutions.
For more than 20 years Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ corporate philosophy and product development strategy ha included a portfolio for preserving the environment. This conference will enable Fujitsu Siemens to predict the future trends in advanced technology for its businesses and green initiatives.
Bernd Bischoff, president and CEO at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, presented the company’s 2007 results and key developments to 60 journalists and 50 analysts using what Polycom says is the industry’s only truly immersive telepresence solution, the Polycom Real Presence Experience (RPX), between two Polycom sites: Hallbergmoos, Polycom’s German headquarters near Munich, and its UK headquarters in Slough near London.
“We are delighted with the results of our Polycom facilitated interactive meeting with leading industry analysts and media. It was a very innovative and professional use of immersive telepresence technology and had the added benefit of minimizing the effort and travel for the event,” said Bischoff. “It provided an excellent experience for all participants, as we all did appear to be in the same room. The event validates our efforts in using information technology conscientiously to protect our planet.”
A special interaction was held between the Fujitsu Siemens Computers executives and the audience for demonstrating the Polycom’s state-of-the-art RPX telepresence. A high quality, high definition, real-time and dynamic interaction between them emphasized less travel and at less cost for executives, journalists, and analysts, and also the prevention of carbon emissions resulting from travel. The audience-friendly and naturally proportioned ‘face-to-face’ communication enabled clearer exchanges, leading to increased analyst and press satisfaction, compared to traditional audio-only calls.
“This event was a special showcase of Polycom’s immersive telepresence technologies aimed at supporting companies like Fujitsu Siemens Computers in a specific business activity with analysts and the media,” said Steve Leyland, Polycom managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). “Of course telepresence does more than improve communications and productivity in an enterprise, it is also increasingly viewed as a critical green technology — valuable as an immediate means for reducing an organization’s carbon footprint.”
The presentation was also recorded using Polycom’s RSS server for those who where unable to attend the meeting and the recording of the conference is now available on the Fujitsu Siemens Computers website http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/aboutus/events/fiwebconf2008/dialin.html
