Interactive Virtual Learning Tools and Web Conferencing Market Thrives: Report

Wainhouse (News - Alert) Research has published the results of its study on real-time learning tools market. According to the study, interactive whiteboards, Web conferencing and other platforms like Second Life have broad prospects with few major short-term barriers in sight.

The research found that interactive whiteboard market for educational and training purpose would total approximately $880 million in 2009, and will grow to almost $2 billion by the end of 2014. The technology is strongest in higher and primary and secondary education.

Web conferencing will thrive in corporate training, said Wainhouse Research officials.

According to Alan D. Greenberg, author of the report, new use cases for these tools are making them more compelling than ever before. He also added that some of the vendors and service providers are doing a great job of creating enabling factors such as easy-to-use technologies, assessment and measurement tools, and user-enabling programs.

Educators and corporate trainers are motivated to implement the technology in their training program- thanks to the stimulus funding and major governmental initiatives supporting the virtual training technology.

While these tools improve the learning experience among children, they also enhance the training efficiencies in business, research analysts said.

Wainhouse Research provides insight and intelligence into the global markets for audio, Web data and video conferencing, real-time unified communications, enterprise streaming and Web casting, distance education and enterprise social networking.

This new study is the third volume of its “The Distance Education and e-Learning Landscape” series and includes forecast details, discussion of market dynamics, analysis of their vendors' respective depth of offerings and ability to execute.

In December, Wainhouse Research released another study, “H.264 SVC: A Technical Assessment,” which features an independent analysis of the Scalable Video Coding, or “SVC,” standard, ratified in late 2007 whose benefits are deeply felt in multiple segments of the videoconferencing and unified communications markets.

When properly implemented, an SVC-based video conferencing solution offers many benefits including decreased latency, enhanced video quality, significantly improved network error tolerance, decreased costs and more, the report said.
