Polycom CX300 Desktop Phones Feature Ascender Font Technology

The Polycom CX300 Desktop Phone (News - Alert) is now shipping with Ascender Corporation’s font technology. Ascender Corporation provides advanced font products that specialize in type design, font development and licensing.

The device is the latest member of the Polycom CX product family. The Polycom CX product family consists of an array of devices designed for use with Microsoft (News - Alert) Office Communications Server 2007 R2. The Polycom CX products offer a lower total cost of ownership. Microsoft Office Communicator is a unified communications application that offers advanced presence-enabled features like instant messaging, voice over Internet Protocol, video and desktop sharing.

Ascender Corporation had licensed its font technology to Microsoft Corporation for enhanced multilingual text display. Ascender worked with the Microsoft Office Communicator team to develop a solution for displaying complex scripts on devices with low resolution screens to achieve optimal clarity. Ascender has also worked with Nuance (News - Alert) Communications to integrate high quality fonts with Nuance’s T9 Output multilingual rich text rendering engine.

Nuance’s T9 Output is a complete solution for handling multilingual user interface and text editor in consumer electronic devices with a global market area like mobile phones. These fonts and technology provide Microsoft Office Communicator with the ability to display complex non-Latin scripts as part of a device user interface.

The fonts supplied by Ascender enable support for languages and scripts like Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, Devanagari, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. This provides companies with the ability to develop multilingual user interfaces in products for global markets.

According to Brian Kraimer, vice president of Ascender Corporation, the company is proud to combine its font expertise with technology from Nuance to design a solution that works with the Microsoft Office Communicator. This lets devices with a low power processor, limited memory, and a low resolution display offer rich multilingual text as part of the user interface.

Ascender provides multilingual, custom font development for a range of customers like creative professionals, enterprises, software developers and hardware manufacturers. Ascender also provides multilingual, Unicode compliant font solutions for all of the world’s languages. It is possible to adapt these fonts to meet a customer's specific needs, including modification of the specific character set or tuning the fonts for certain display or printing environments.
