Toshiba to Roll out Polycom KIRK DECT Systems

Toshiba America Information Systems Inc.’s telecommunication systems division announced it is distributing Polycom (News - Alert) KIRK digital enhanced cordless telecommunications systems. The devices, which will include KIRK wireless servers and KIRK wireless handsets, will be sold through Toshiba (News - Alert) network of authorized dealers.

The Polycom KIRK solutions have been certified interoperable with Toshiba’s Strata CIX IP business communication systems, company officials said.

The deal builds on Toshiba’s ongoing relationship with Polycom, a Pleasanton, Calif.-based provider of telepresence, video and voice communications solutions. The company also distributes Polycom’s SpectraLink wireless telephones, its SoundStation conference phones and SoundPoint IP desk phones.

“This agreement gives our customers another advanced telephony product series from Polycom and continues to grow the comprehensive list of interoperable solutions available with the Toshiba Strata CIX VoIP platform,” Mark Carpenter, senior product manager, Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., telecommunication systems division, said in a statement.

The Polycom KIRK DECT (News - Alert) systems consist of wireless telephones that operate through KIRK DECT wireless server and base stations - from small single cell products to multi-cell networked solutions.
Organizations can choose from a combination of handsets in the wireless DECT solution to meet their needs. The SIP-based KIRK DECT systems are compatible with Toshiba’s Strata CIX IP systems.

The system can operate over wireless DECT technology, minimizing interference between nearby base stations and surrounding network infrastructure. It also features SIP line extension dialing which let users tap into the call handling capabilities of the Strata CIX. In addition, users have up to 24 hours of wireless talk time and 200 hours standby time on specific models.

“We’re delighted to see Polycom’s entire line of voice communication solutions available to the large Toshiba customer base,” said Jim Kruger (News - Alert), vice president of marketing for Polycom voice communications solutions, in a statement. “Together, Toshiba and Polycom deliver highly reliable, feature-rich voice communication solutions that meet the needs of SMB and enterprise users in a variety of markets, including office, retail, hospitality, and healthcare.”

In other news, Polycom recently announced that its standards-based company SoundStation IP 6000 and SoundStation IP 7000 conference phones are now compliant with Avaya solutions. The SoundStation conference phones, which feature Polycom HD Voice, are interoperable with Avaya (News - Alert) Aura Communication Manager, Avaya IP Office and Avaya Integral solutions from Avaya, a provider of business communications applications, systems and services.
