BSNL Selects Dilithium for Mobile Video Services

BSNL, one of India’s telecommunications companies, reportedly has selected Dilithium solutions for the deployment of new mobile video and streaming services over 2G and 3G networks. BSNL (News - Alert) South Zone will deploy 3G Live TV and other video services.

According to Dilithium officials, the company has partnered with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. in BSNL South Zone to provide end to end delivery solutions for BSNL’s live mobile video services.

Company officials said that their solution includes the Dilithium (News - Alert) DTG 3021 multimedia gateway and the DCA content adaptation and video streaming solution, enabling two-way video calling and other advanced video services.

“It has been an honor to work in another BSNL Zone to bring mobile video solutions to the India market,” said Prabhat Kumar Bhagvandas, vice president and general manager of India operations.

Bhagvandas said that the company’s ability to provide comprehensive end-to-end solutions for both circuit-switched and packet-switched video makes it a good fit for BSNL’s requirements.

Dilithium is a global provider of mobile video infrastructure solutions enabling multimedia services from any network to any device.

In July Dilithium announced the availability of live video and video-on-demand streaming support for the iPhone (News - Alert) OS 3.0 utilizing the Dilithium Content Adapter.

The DCA iPhone solution is an infrastructure offering that can be deployed by operators and service providers enabling their customers to access live or on demand video content through the standard iPhone Safari browser.

The DCA solution supports live and pre-recorded clips in a wide range of video formats. DCA performs on-the-fly and on demand media format and codec adaptation. iPhone users do not need to install a special application, and may be on WiFi (News - Alert), WiMax, 3G or 3.5G (HSDPA) networks.

In May Dilithium announced that Zain (News - Alert), a provider of mobile communications in the Middle East and Africa, has selected Dilithium to provide mobile video solutions to Zain’s customer base.

Zain will provide new services to its customers using the latest interactive technologies such as 3G video and web communications, while at the same time integrating mobile communications through cell phones and Flash-based Internet and PC applications.

New video value added services will include video surveillance and VCCV (Video Call Completion to Voice).
