Sybase 365 to Provide SMS Notifications and Mobile Marketing Services for Western Union

Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc., would provide SMS notifications and mobile marketing services for Western Union¸ a major player in money transfer.

The company, as part of the pact, will provide services to enable Western Union (News - Alert) to interact with and engage its consumers with SMS-based notifications and mobile marketing campaigns.

Company officials said that Sybase 365 (News - Alert) delivers SMS-based messages to Western Union loyalty card members who send money transfers from nine countries worldwide, including Belgium, Denmark, France, Gabon, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Sweden and the U.K.

SMS notifications are available in the senders’ preferred languages, including Swedish, Dutch, Danish and French. When consumers send money, they can receive an SMS message confirming the funds have been paid out.

According to the company officials, the service will be extended to Western Union Gold Card members in six additional countries by year-end.

“There are now more than four billion mobile phones in use worldwide,” said Gail Galuppo, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Western Union, in a statement. Galuppo said that in select markets, the company is already putting the power of Western Union in the consumers’ hands by offering transactions via mobile phone.

“By furthering our agreement with Sybase 365, we are able to bring even more value to our consumers by notifying them that their funds have been received and by offering discounts and special offers directly on their mobile phones,” he added.

Marty Beard, president of Sybase 365said that the company’s global mobile messaging reach and mobile commerce services allow enterprises to maximize the potential of the mobile economy.

Beard said that this service is a perfect example of how companies can leverage multi-faceted offering to reach and engage customers effectively through the mobile device.
Sybase 365, is a major player in enabling mobile information services for mobile operators, financial institutions and enterprises. Company officials added that it provides customers with the widest offering in SMS, MMS and GRX interoperability, end-to-end mobile commerce solutions, innovative text messaging, mobile marketing and content delivery services.
TMCnet in October reported that Geodesic Limited is reportedly partnering with Sybase 365 to extend the breadth of Geodesic’s (News - Alert) service portfolio and to further expand its large global user base.
