Polycom Telepresence Helps The Mizkan Group Slash Travel Costs

Polycom, Inc., the Pleasanton, Calif.-based provider of telepresence, video, and voice communications solutions, today announced The Mizkan Group, a Handa City, Japan-based food manufacturer, has launched Polycom’s (News - Alert) high-definition room telepresence solutions across its sites worldwide.

According to Polycom, an HD Voice provider, The Mizkan Group deployed Polycom HDX series room telepresence solutions at its headquarters and at 13 branch offices. Company officials also launched the solution at its international offices in the U.S., U.K. and China.

With Polycom’s telepresence solutions, The Mizkan Group reportedly has been able to boost its market advantage, as well as match the responsiveness of competitors based in larger Japanese cities. The technology lets company officials share content to support a variety of business applications; including meetings with managers located in different offices and planning sessions with external agencies.

Since the deployment, more than 1,000 employees of The Mizkan Group have used Polycom telepresence solutions to conduct face-to-face meetings without travelling. As a result, has dramatically reduced travel costs, Polycom said. In addition, Polycom’s telepresence solutions have helped The Mizkan Group be better prepared for pandemics and other possible business interruptions with its alternative travel solution.

Princeton Technology, a Polycom partner, was in charge of managing the deployment process. The Polycom telepresence solutions were implemented across The Mizkan Group's global sites within 12 months, officials said.

Hiroshi Masuda, manager, information planning section, management information systems department, at Mizkan Busitec - the group that manages the IT infrastructure operations of The Mizkan Group – said using Polycom video solutions has helped The Mizkan Group boost productivity and business competitiveness.

“Reducing the need for travel also ensures our teams have the opportunity to spend more time with their families, promoting an improved work-life balance," Masuda said in a statement.

In related news, a Kansas City, Mo-based law firm recently announced it deployed Polycom’s telepresence technology to boost inter-office collaboration and client meetings. Lathrop & Gage, a full service law firm with more than 300 attorneys spread across in 11 offices in North America, recently installed Polycom high-definition telepresence systems and Riverbed (News - Alert) Technology wide area network optimization solutions to better serve clients and improve collaboration among its dispersed offices.
