A Pleasanton, Calif.-based company that provides telepresence, video, and voice solutions announced that its digitally enhanced, cordless telephony-based wireless voice systems are now certified for use with ShoreTel's (News - Alert) unified communications system.

 

Polycom, Inc.’s DECT (News - Alert) voice systems are now interoperable with ShoreTel’s Inc. The devices that can be used with ShoreTel include the Polycom (News - Alert) KIRK Wireless Servers  6000 and 300, as well as the portfolio of KIRK handsets, the company said. The KIRK handsets, which target carpeted environments and industrial facilities that need durable handsets, offer Shore-Tel customers more flexibility and choice to deploy its services, the firm said.

"ShoreTel certification of Polycom's SIP-based products reinforces ShoreTel's commitment to open standards and support for SIP-based solutions that drive the mainstream adoption of UC across all sectors."

 

The KWS300 is a single-cell system that can support up to 12 handsets and four simultaneous calls. Users can add six KIRK repeaters to extend coverage, the company said. The handset is better suited for small businesses. Meanwhile, the KWS6000 can meet the wireless needs of more than 4,000 mobile employees and targets medium- to larger-size firms. It is a multi-cell solution that can be scaled to accommodate users’ needs.

Last month, Polycom announced that its DECT voice systems are now interoperable with Cisco Unified Communications Manager by tekVizion (News - Alert), an independent third-party lab. The solutions that can be used with Cisco UCM include the KIRK Wireless Servers 6000 and 30, the company said.

 

In other news, Polycom reported its second quarter earnings last week, which were closer to Wall Street expectations than the brighter outlook that was rumored last week. For the six months ended June 30, net revenue was $456.1 million, versus to $530.5 million a year ago. Non-GAAP net income for the period was $46.8 million, or 55 cents per diluted share, compared to $63.4 million, or 71 cents per diluted share, for the first six months of 2008, TMCnet reported.
