BroadSoft Developer Contest Adds Polycom Challenge
Polycom has joined Broadsoft as a co-sponsor of the “XContestv2 Developer Challenge,” whose winner will be awarded with cash prizes of over $30,000 and given the opportunity to showcase their applications to BroadSoft’s (News - Alert) global customer base of more than 450 telecommunications service providers.
The contest is co-sponsored by IBM (News - Alert) and is designed to help developers create compelling business and consumer communications applications.
The inclusion of Polycom (News - Alert) now increases the prize amount to $43,000. The Polycom Bonus Challenge encourages XCv2 developers to extend their application user experiences into the domain of video-enabled desktop devices. Polycom’s VVX 1500 business media phone provides an open API and microbrowser for delivery of personalized Web content and integration with business applications as it combines a personal video conferencing system and full featured support for the BroadWorks VoIP application platform.
“The need for individuals to customize their communication preferences and be more productive is fueling a new wave of innovation in the telecommunications industry, opening up new revenue-generating opportunities for both third-party developers and services providers,” said Leslie Ferry, vice president of marketing at BroadSoft. “We assembled a panel of individuals from various sectors of the ecosystem who share BroadSoft’s commitment to transforming communications.”
BroadSoft claims that this year’s 2nd annual mashup contest has generated an overwhelming response from the developer community. According to the company, the contest has generated a 10x increase in registrations compared to last year’s contest. Apart from cash prizes, the contest will also provide exposure to developers with more than 450 BroadSoft service provider customers. Also, the Xtended Marketplace, BroadSoft’s online storefront of third-party applications makes sure that developers’ mashups will potentially be seen by more than 500 million end users.
The contest is becoming increasingly popular as mashup usage amongst consumers and enterprises is on a constant rise.
