CallWave Sells Virtual Fax Subscriber Base to J2 Global for $12 Million


CallWave, provider of mobile and Web-based unified communication solutions, reportedly has sold its Virtual Fax subscriber base.

 
The company says it sold its subscriber base and related intellectual property associated with its legacy virtual fax technology to j2 Global Communications, Inc.
 
The $12 million deal will see each company cross-license its intellectual property assets. J2 also provides a full suite of unified communications services that include fax, Web-based voicemail, conference calling and a comprehensive set of other outsourced virtual phone services.
 
Jeffrey Cavins, chief executive officer at CallWave (News - Alert), said that in his company’s review of strategic alternatives, it appears better to focus on Unified Communications strategies.
 
CallWave which was founded in 1998 provides coverage of unified communication applications that allows professionals from all around the world to communicate, collaborate, and conference with each other, irrespective of which part of the world they are located in, provided they are connected via computer over any web connection or with any leading 3G smartphone or Wi-Fi enabled device. CallWave’s Web Messenger solutions securely extend instant messaging and OCS applications to mobile devices, including the iPhone (News - Alert).
 
The company continues its strategic realignment around its FUZE Unified Communications (News - Alert) Product. FUZE is a web-based collaboration and mobile service that enables secure, real-time collaboration, and presence. FUZE offers its customers unique features that include high-definition, synchronized video and image sharing.
 
J2 Global Communications currently provides a variety of business-critical communications and storage messaging services through its global communications, telephony and messaging network. The company offers a complete array of unified-messaging and communications services, including faxing and voicemail solutions, web-initiated conference calling, storage messaging services and virtual office solutions.
