AudioCodes Partners with MIPS to Deliver VoIPerfect and HD VoIP

AudioCodes, a provider of Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies and Voice Networks products, and MIPS Technologies Inc. a supplier of industry-standard architectures, processors and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, have together announced a new solution.

The AudioCodes’ (News - Alert) VoIPerfect and VoIPerfectHD Voice over IP software on MIPS32 processor cores will enable System on Chip (SoC) designers to develop cost-effective products with advanced VoIP Quality of Service (QoS) and outstanding performance.

This combination is expected to lead to a more natural voice quality for devices such as IP Phones and Integrated Access Devices (IADs) for GPON, WiMAX (News - Alert) and ADSL.
HD VoIP technologies are designed to deliver better voice clarity, intelligibility and richer sound as compared to traditional voice networks. As a result, the user experience is improved by the doubling of the audible voice spectrum.

Such solutions from AudioCodes are optimized for MIPS Technologies’ (News - Alert) single-threaded and multi-threaded 32-bit cores. This brings together the high-performance MIPS architecture with AudioCodes’ DSP, voice coding and SIP application technologies.

The two companies are positioning their combined solution as providing VoIP developers with the ability to leverage multi-threading to process multiple VoIP channels and preserve voice quality. With its software running on the 34K core, AudioCodes achieved an acceleration of up to one and a half times compared to a single-threaded core.

“AudioCodes is focused on bringing a new level of quality to VoIP communication, and we are delighted that MIPS Technologies recognizes the potential of HD VoIP, and has decided to collaborate with us on this solution,'' said Shaul Weissman, Vice President, VoIP processors at AudioCodes, in a Tuesday statement.

“We are currently engaged with several customers who are expected to significantly benefit from the high-performance MIPS-Based(tm) solutions. The collaboration of MIPS Technologies' strength in home networking and AudioCodes' expertise in VoIP creates a winning combination for next-generation products.''

“We are pleased to work with AudioCodes, a well known leader in the VoIP market, in developing this optimized solution,'' said Udi Kalekin, Vice President of software engineering, MIPS Technologies, in the Tuesday statement.

“With our broad ecosystem of support, DSP extensions, multi-threading capability and industry-leading performance, MIPS cores are an ideal fit for VoIP products. We look forward to continuing to work with AudioCodes on future algorithms and software to further benefit the cost-sensitive and rapidly developing VoIP market.''

AudioCodes has developed its software to be optimized for MIPS cores, including the high-performance MIPS32 24K core and the multi-threaded 34K core. In addition, its software is scalable to the next level of performance with the superscalar MIPS32 74K core and the multi-threaded, multi-core MIPS32 1004K Coherent Processing System.

As the market for VoIP solutions continues to expand and evolve to include extended technologies, including HD VoIP, the demand for integrated solutions will continue to grow.

Consumers and users demand the same voice quality as experienced with traditional systems and AudioCodes and MIPS are working together to make that possible. For VoIP developers seeking to expand into additional areas of opportunity within the market, this latest partnership is sure to be beneficial.
