Unison Technologies Brings UC to Linux
Unison Technologies (News - Alert) announced that it has entered into a partnership with Canonical, Inc. to bring unified communications to Linux. Unison is a fully-unified communications software capable of running on both Ubuntu (News - Alert) Sever and on Ubuntu Desktop Edition. For Ubuntu users this will be a cost-effective and more functional alternative to legacy solutions.
Businesses will have a solution for messaging and unified communications as Unison is available on Ubuntu. This avoids a barrier to adoption of Linux by more users. The cost will be very less compared to the cost of a PC with Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows, Office and Outlook. This makes Ubuntu and Unison a good alternative to business IT.
Rurik Bradbury, CMO of Unison Technologies, said, “We believe that Unison on Ubuntu is a ‘killer app’ for Linux and a great option for any small or medium business. It is more powerful and far more affordable than the Microsoft alternative. With the user-friendliness and wide distribution of Ubuntu, we expect this partnership to further accelerate the growth of both Linux in business IT as well as unified communications.”
Malcolm Yates, ISV partner manager for Canonical, Inc. explained that Unison was a solution which makes unified communications affordable and easy to use. The partnership between Canonical and Unison entail the selling of Unison software by Canonical enabling instant downloads and purchases of Unison.
Unison offers integrated solutions of all major communications onto a single server. This Unison Server powers e-mail, instant messaging, a PBX (News - Alert), contacts and calendaring. Users can access the server through Unison Desktop, a native application for Ubuntu or Windows. This takes care of all communication needs in one place. Business workers can increase their productivity as it saves time in the management and searching for messages.
Unison will be more reliable and cost-effective as it offers integrated PBX, e-mail and instant messaging system all running on a single Ubuntu server. Companies need not purchase and maintain multiple servers for communication. The software is initially aimed at SMBs with 20 to 1000 staff members.
“Unison is a new proposition for SMBs. They reduce their IT management and costs, at the same time boosting productivity by as much as 15 percent. We expect to see a rapid adoption of Unison as companies realize the enormous benefits they can gain with relatively little cost,” Bradbury added.
Unison Technologies developed Unison, a fully-unified communication system. This is a combination of telephony, e-mail, instant messaging and collaboration in a single Linux server. Unison enables workers to be more productive by bringing all communications into a single platform facilitating millions of businesses worldwide.
