Nortel Combines Old with New Telephony for Perth's Hollywood Hospital
Putting the Hollywood Private Hospital on the road to Unified Communications, Nortel (News - Alert) has deployed a new healthcare voice communications solution for Hollywood Private Hospital. While adding modern call functionality and providing an easy upgrade to unified communications, the hospital can also retain existing phones with this deployment.
Hollywood Private Hospital is a private teaching hospital recognized as a center for excellence in surgery, medicine, psychiatric care, rehabilitation and palliative care. Located in the Perth suburb of Nedlands in Western Australia, the hospital is looking to remain one of the largest and most modern private hospitals in Australia and is currently undergoing a $128.5 million dollar redevelopment of its facilities and services.
Without sacrificing current investments in handsets and cabling, the hospital was looking to improve the long-term reliability of its voice system with a solution that would support future technology without requiring additional equipment. The doctors and patients of the hospital could now get call functionality and added capabilities they didn't have before, with Nortel’s solution. They get benefits such as voice mail and unified messaging
for remote retrieval of important messages to enable more rapid response.
As a teaching hospital, Hollywood Private Hospital relies on its communications infrastructure to properly support and assist its interns. The hospital also needs to keep in mind the fact that it is in a competitive, budget-conscious industry and should invest in technology that gives the hospital features it needs at the right price. The long-term supplier of the hospital, PABX Service Group Western Meridian, worked with them to provide a solution on spec. They were also in the process of building a new extension to the hospital and wanted to avoid the expense of refitting its existing facilities with IP
phones. The Nortel solution provided the hospital with foundation for easily expanding its services with new technology further down the line and extends its current network investments.
“Many organizations are daunted by the prospect of replacing their existing communications systems with new technology even though they can appreciate the benefits that IP telephony and unified communications will bring to their business,” says Mark Fioretto, general manager, Enterprise Solutions, Australia and New Zealand, Nortel.
