Devicescape Enables Anytime Anywhere Wi-Fi Access on Multiple Gadgets

Devicescape, a provider of Wi-Fi solutions, enables more than five million devices, including iPhones, Smartphones, Slacker Internet Radios, laptops, cameras and game systems to access Wi-Fi anytime, anywhere.

Using the service, users can download email, music, or video, without requiring an additional browser to enter the user name or password.

Devicescape has been working with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Fujitsu, HP, Intel, Nokia, RIM and Slacker, along with service providers like British Telecom, Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile (News - Alert)) and The Cloud to enable a "Wi-Fi Made Easy" experience for consumers.

Devicescape’s technology is now shipping in more than five million devices.

Devicescape estimated that its free software has been downloaded by more than a quarter of a million people all over the world.

Among all the devices, along with their software, that support Devicescape technology, the most popular is Apple iPhone/iPod touch, followed by Nokia (News - Alert) Smartphones.

Most recently, Devicescape partnered with The Cloud, an independent wireless broadband provider in Europe, to power Cloud’s forthcoming service called "mycloud". Devicescape Connect Service automatically connects subscribers' Wi-Fi devices to The Cloud and other European networks.

In another major business expansion this year, Devicescape entered into a partnership with Slacker to incorporate Devicescape Connect into the Slacker Portable. Using Devicescape Connect, Slacker Portable users can instantly access hundreds of thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots that normally require a password or Web-based login. Devicescape automates the process of accessing Wi-Fi hotspots making it simple for Slacker Portable users to refresh their Personal Radio stations at hotspots all over town as well as favorite places, such as Starbucks and McDonalds.

In-Stat (News - Alert) predicts that over one billion non-laptop Wi-Fi devices are expected on the market by 2010. They will create significant impact on network operators businesses. "To grow the number of users and revenues, service providers need to find ways to get more Wi-Fi-enabled non-laptop devices onto their networks,"  says In-Stat.
