Polycom Selects TI's VoIP Technology

TI’s field-proven digital signal processing (DSP) technology is reportedly powering Polycom’s (News - Alert) new SoundPoint IP 670 desktop phone. When companied with Texas Instruments' (News - Alert) DSP technology, Polycom's software and systems expertise create a unique high definition (HD) lifelike voice quality experience for Polycom's business customers and further extend Polycom's innovative family of IP phones.

Polycom's SoundPoint IP670, an application-enabled desktop SIP phone is designed to meet the needs of business customers. The device features a high-performance color display, HD voice technology and Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) connectivity.

Polycom is constantly pushing innovative applications and capabilities, as well as helping business users experience lifelike communication and conduct remote meetings anywhere in the world, according to Jeffrey Rodman, Polycom co-founder and chief technical officer for Polycom's Voice division.

Rodman explained his company continues to depend on TI's strength in DSP programmability and flexibility as they continue developing better phones that proliferate in workplaces, desktops, and conference tables. Rodman said that TI is continually demonstrating to Polycom that they not only have leading technology in VoIP architectures, but an exceptional support philosophy that assures them fast access to the right experts and the right tools to get their new products to market quickly.

The IP phone market growth is expected to explode over the next five years, as global business communication requirements evolve and companies update their networks to take advantage of IP for data and voice. Texas Instruments refers to a 2007 report from analyst firm Dell' (News - Alert)Oro Group that said IP lines represented 40 percent of the total number of line shipments deployed.

Angela Raucher, director, product management, TI's communications infrastructure and voice group said that Polycom’s products and now its new SoundPoint IP 670 desktop phone offers robust quality and superb clarity in voice transmission. She added that the power and performance of TI's VoIP platforms coupled with the breadth and quality of Polycom's IP phone portfolio is enabling businesses to enjoy a richer audio experience through HD quality voice transmission.

Both Polycom and TI have a longstanding relationship and share focus to push
advanced IP communications features to businesses worldwide.
